Changing Pattern of Bacterial Isolates from Blood Samples in Paediatric ICUs
نویسندگان
چکیده
Objective: To observe most frequent bacterial isolate from septicemic children. Setting: Study was conducted in BMSI, JPMC, Karachi with collaboration of tertiary care hospitals of Karachi during July 2010 to December 2010. Method: Blood samples for culture were collected from 105 children admitted in ICU with suspected septicemia. Specimens were inoculated in brain heart infusion broth in ration of 1:5. subcultures were plerformed at 24 hours, 72 hours and on the 7 th day. Isolates were identified by standard methods. Results: A total of 67 organisms isolated out of 105 samples. These include Gram negative (45/67) and Gram positive (22/67). Klebsiella were 18, Staphylococcus aureus were 12, Staphylococcus epidermidis were 10, Proteus mirabilis 7, Enterobacter 5, Pseudomonas 5, Escherichia coli 4, Acinetobacter 3, Citrobacter 2 and Staphylococcus saprophyticus 1. Conclusion: In the view of isolates Klebsiella pneumoniae tends to show a higher frequency in the paediatric sepsis.

Antimicrobial Susceptibility Pattern of Clinical Isolates of Pseudomonas Aeruginosa in a Pediatric Hospital
Background and Objective: Pseudomonas aeruginosa has become a frequent cause of nosocomial infections, particularly in intensive care units (ICUs). Many reports have documented high rates of resistance in this species to commonly-used broad-spectrum antibiotics. The aim of this study was to assess the in vitro activity of some a...
متن کاملDetermination of Antibiotic Resistance Pattern of Bacteria Isolated from Blood, Cerebrospinal Fluid, and Urine Samples in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Ali Asghar Hospital, Iran during 2013-15
Background: Infections are one of the most important causes of death in infants, especially in developing countries. Inappropriate use and administration of antibiotics can contribute to the resistance and spread of infection. In this study, we determined the antibiotic resistance pattern of the bacteria isolated from clinical samples of blood, cerebrospinal fluid, and urine in the neonatal int...

Background: Staphylococcus aureus is a common pathogen in human that can be the cause of a wide range of infectious diseases including bacteremia, pneumonia, cellulitis, and osteomyelitis and skin and soft tissue infections. The coagulase enzyme is one of the most important virulence factors of this bacterium. The polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) Coa...
